Frequently Asked Questions
What is pemf?
PEMF emits electromagnetic waves throughout the body to stimulate the blood cells, increasing blood oxygenation and circulation, and encouraging the body's natural function to operate more efficiently. It is a drug-free method to improve body function and blood flow, decreasing inflammation, which results in pain relief, reducing recovery and healing times, and many other health benefits with virtually no negative side effects. See our Why PEMF page for more info.
What Can pemf help?
There are a vast range of conditions that PEMF has been used to aid. Typically, boosted oxygenation, increased blood flow, and decreased toxicity of the cells will be beneficial to most healing and recovery, or even for daily activities the body undergoes. Some specific benefits of PEMF are listed below:
- Increasing circulation
- Reducing swelling and inflammation
- Accelerating bone healing
- Enhancing muscle function
- Reducing the effects of stress
- Improving blood oxygenation
- Energizing the cells
- Cell detoxification
- Relieving pain
- Restoring cell membrane potential
- Improving cell hydration
- Increasing tissue healing rate
Is there actual EVIDENCE of pemf providing results?
There are over 30 years of research to support the positive effects of PEMF therapy. We have an abundance of information on our website, but that is only a small portion of the collective of research that is available. Please feel free to do your own research and ask us questions if you have any. A great location to start your research is pubmed.gov, where there are over 600 articles discussing the use of PEMF in many different clinical studies, with published medical information:

Is pemf magic?
Unfortunately, no, PEMF is not magic. PEMF simply allows the body's systems to operate more efficiently by energizing the cell membrane potential. This increases oxygen and hydration in the blood cells and helps the body recover, heal, and operate to its full potential.
What is the difference between pemf and tens or lasers
Many of the therapies discussed below will work well as complimentary treatment to PEMF therapy. The descriptions below are not to degrade the other treatments as they are viable treatment solutions and can be very effective. One of the main differences between PEMF and the therapies below is the treatment size limitations of the other devices. PEMF can treat the overall body as well as focused therapy, where as the other devices are typically best implemented in a concentrated areas.
Low Level Laser Therapy uses a near infrared light produced by a laser to stimulate the mitochondria within cells. The increased energy within the cells can decrease swelling and help with pain relief, but with such a small signal laser therapy is very localized, and there is a shallower depth of penetration into the body. PEMF will stimulate the cells using magnetic field also decreasing swelling and providing pain relief, and can be applied to either a localized area or to larger areas. Penetration depth for PEMF is much greater than Low Level Lasers, allowing PEMF to increase function deeper into the body. To increase penetration with the laser the intensity must be increased which can sometimes cause irritation, while irritation from PEMF treatments is extremely rare. Low Level Laser Therapy can be beneficial in some applications and may also be used in conjunction with PEMF.
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) uses a low voltage electrical current to excite sensory nerves, which stimulates the pain gate mechanism. TENS is very effective to relieve pain, but does not improve the healing process in any way. TENS requires direct contact with the skin through electrodes, limiting the treatment to the size of the electrodes, and sometimes there is the inconvenience of working around fabric. PEMF not only assists with pain reduction, but the increased oxygen, circulation and creation of healthy cells will help to improve healing times as well. Since PEMF uses magnetic field rather than electrical current, PEMF treatments can be done over clothes and be applied to multiple areas of the body easily.
Shockwave treatment uses sound waves to create a concussion to the area being treated. This concussion assists in bringing increased blood flow to the area being treated. These treatments can be painful depending on the magnitude of the concussion. PEMF will achieve a similar blood flow using a pulsing magnetic field without any pain, and can be performed on the whole body or large regions of the body rather than a single spot.

Who can not be treated by pemf?
PEMF is not recommended for pregnant women, patients with fibromyalgia, or clients receiving chemotherapy.
If you are taking medication or anticoagulants please check with your doctor to see if PEMF can be used in conjunction with the medications.
PEMF can lower the blood sugar levels after treatment, so if you have diabetes please consult your doctor.
For clients with electrical device implants like pacemakers and insulin pumps PEMF may be used on certain parts of the body depending on the situation. Always consult with your doctor.
PEMF does not affect metal implants in the body or tracking chips implanted in dogs.
PEMF is not recommended for clients with recent organ transplants, specifically clients currently taking immunosuppressants.

How long does pemf last, and how often should i have it done?
There is not a single answer for this question, because it is based upon the severity and type of issue being addressed and the lifestyle of the client, along with several other factors. In general, we would start with frequent treatments working to restore healthy operation of the body systems, and then once significant improvement is no longer apparent we space treatments out as often as is needed to maintain that high level of function.
What is different between PEMF, other emfs, and static magnets?
Static Magnets (Magnetic blankets, necklaces, collars) produce a static magnetic field, while PEMF utilizes a dynamic magnetic field. A dynamic magnetic field will create an electrical current within the body tissues, nerves, and blood. This charges the cells, encouraging cell growth and nerve firing, improving blood flow, and improving overall natural body function. The power level of static magnets is very small and non adjustable, while the amount of power applied by PEMF can be adjusted according to the location on the body and the comfort of the individual to optimize benefits and effectiveness.
Other Electro-Magnetic Fields (EMF) To determine weather an EMF is harmful or therapeutic to the body depends upon the wavelength and frequency of the EMF. On the electromagnetic spectrum:
Electro-Magnetic Wave.....................Frequency
Gama & X-Rays............................ 30+ petahertz
Ultraviolet light ............................. 3+ petahertz
Infrared radiation......................300+ gigahertz
Microwaves.....................................1+ gigahertz
Cell phones/Computers...............30+ kilohertz
Radio waves.....................................3000+ hertz
PEMF.....................................less than 100 hertz
PEMF is operating at a far lower frequency than that of the other harmful electromagnetic waves, avoiding any negative side affects that are associated with the higher frequencies. Years of texts and studies have proved that there are no negative effects with the use of PEMF therapy.

Do you use the little PEMF machine you can buy at a local drug store?
Refer to Our Equipment page for more information on our Machine. The small machines that you can purchase at a drug store are low voltage devices and produce significantly less energy to charge the cells. The smaller devices are beneficial, but they are typically intended for smaller, localized areas. We use a high voltage, low frequency device which can produce enough power to treat large areas of the body. The other main difference between low voltage devices and the machine we use is the time required to achieve a similar effect. Treating a single area with a low voltage device may require up to 60 minutes of treatment multiple times a day on only one area, and the high voltage device could achieve similar effects in as little as 10 minutes, with longer lasting results between treatments. Our machine is fully adjustable so that the signal can be decreased as low as necessary to remain comfortable for the client, while producing a field that can still provide the body with a lot of energy to deliver the improvements desired.
How soon can i compete or work my horse after treatment?
The horse can be worked immediately following treatment. For equine, humans and small animals there is no required down time after a PEMF treatment.
Can you diagnose what is wrong with me or my animal?
NO. We are not certified medical professionals or veterinarians. We are happy to talk to and work with your doctor or vet to find the best solutions for you or your animal. PEMF does not heal specific conditions or directly target any ailments, PEMF simply increases the body's natural operation and healing ability to allow for these conditions to be resolved more efficiently. By increasing oxygenation in the blood and decreasing anaerobic environments within the body, PEMF can help with many different ailments by improving the root operation of the natural healing processes.
